The Excelsior City Council on Monday will discuss the future of a blighted building that houses the now-closed Excelsior Grill restaurant.

Minneapolis-based The Waters Senior Living LLC wants to build a new independent living community for seniors on the site, located at 723 Water St., which is off of Highway 7 near Water Street and Academy Avenue.

Supporters say the proposed plan will provide “much-needed lifecycle housing” and will allow seniors to stay in the community.

The Waters Senior Living LLC has locations either established or underway in Edina, Minneapolis, Plymouth, Rochester, Oakdale, Highlight Park, Eden Prairie, White Bear Lake and Excelsior.

The city council meets at 7 p.m.
