A 25-year-old pregnant woman found dead in Eagan Tuesday afternoon has been identified.
According to the Eagan Police Department, Senicha Marie Lessman was found unresponsive at a townhome on the 3100 block of Alden Pond Lane around 3 p.m. Tuesday. Paramedics attempted life saving efforts, but Lessman was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities say Lessman was 32 weeks pregnant, which is approximately 8 months.
The Eagan Police Department said Lessman appeared to have been subjected to trauma, and detectives say they believe the death was a homicide.
Just before 6 p.m., authorities arrested 23-year-old Vern Jason Mouelle, of Brooklyn Park, as a person of interest. Mouelle had not been charged with a crime as of Wednesday morning. He is currently in police custody. Authorities said they believe Mouelle and Lessman were in a relationship.
"The kind of relationship they have is currently being investigated. We are working with family members, friends and neighbors to figure out what kind of relationship they had and piece together what happened," said Officer Aaron Machtemes of the Eagan Police Department.
Machtemes says there are no prior calls for service to the address and they have had no prior contact with Mouelle.
Authorities said they are not currently looking for additional suspects unless further information is obtained through the investigation.
The Hennepin County Medical Examiner is conducting an autopsy on Lessman's body and fetus to determine the official cause of death.
Lessman's mother issued the following statement in response to the incident:
We are devastated at the tragic death of my daughter Senicha and her unborn son. She was a loving, kind, smart and beautiful young woman who was very excited to be a mother. She was loved greatly by all of her family, friends and coworkers. We will miss her more than words can say. We are asking for privacy while our family grieves during this difficult time.
