Carew to be Honored at First Minnesota Sports Awards Gala

Former Minnesota Twins great Rod Carew will receive the Lifetime Achievement Award at the first Minnesota Sports Awards Gala, scheduled to be held from 5 to 9 p.m. on Dec. 13 at Target Center in Minneapolis.

A release from Sports Minneapolis, the organizer of the event, said fans from across Minnesota were invited to nominate athletes in designated categories. Awards for high school, college and professional athletes of the year will also be awarded, as will a Courage Award and an award for Minnesota sports moment of the year.

Former Vikings standout John Randle and Wild play-by-play announcer Anthony LaPanta are expected to emcee the event. A number of prominent Minnesota sports figures are expected to attend.
