A man who was arrested after police discovered he had been living with two dead bodies in a White Bear Lake home for more than a year has been released from jail.

Fifty-nine-year-old Robert James Kuefler was arrested Tuesday on suspicion of financial exploitation of a vulnerable adult. He was released from jail at 8:56 a.m. Thursday, and no charges have been filed against him.

The incident was reported at 7:32 a.m. Tuesday on the 4700 block on Sandra Lane after a neighbor requested a welfare check, saying the grass hadn’t been cut and the garbage hadn’t been taken out for some time at the home.

Officers arrived and said they could see a dead person through a main floor window. When they entered the home, they found a second dead person downstairs.

Police say Kuefler was at the home at the time and was arrested.

Kuefler told police that both people had died on separate occasions in 2015, which is consistent with the Ramsey County Medical Examiner’s report that they had been dead for more than a year.

The medical examiner’s office said they weren’t able to determine the causes of death, but it’s believed they were due to natural causes, adding it may take several weeks to confirm the identities of the two bodies.
