Jacob Wetterling's killer will not have to pay restitution to the victims, according to a U.S. District Court filing Tuesday in Minneapolis.
Danny James Heinrich was sentenced on Nov. 21, 2016, after he confessed to killing Wetterling in court in September.
The government had 90 days following the sentencing to determine if Heinrich owed restitution. The court was notified by the federal government Monday no restitution would be owed.
U.S. District Court Chief Judge John R. Tunheim signed the order Tuesday in Minneapolis. The order can be read here.
