Trump Attorney: President Never Demanded End to Investigation

June 08, 2017 02:46 PM

President Donald Trump's personal attorney says the president "never, in form or substance" directed former FBI director James Comey to stop investigating anyone. That includes former national security adviser, Michael Flynn.

Marc Kasowitz is responding to Comey's Thursday morning testimony, in which the fired FBI director said Trump urged him to drop the Flynn case.

Kasowitz says that the president is "entitled to expect loyalty" from those serving the administration. But he says Trump never told Comey, "I need loyalty, I expect loyalty," in form or substance, as Comey claimed.

Kasowitz has been charged with answering on the president's behalf regarding the Russia investigation in lieu of White House communications staff.

For his part, Trump's Twitter feed remained silent Thursday as he allowed his attorney to speak on his behalf.

Meanwhile, Donald Trump Jr., the president's son, employed an active Twitter strategy during Comey's testimony. He tweeted and retweeted support for the president often during the nearly three-hour testimony.

Trump Jr. indicated via Twitter his skepticism of the "mainstream media and democratic narrative" by citing that the Dow hit a new all-time high.

He retweeted others who characterized Comey's testimony as a victory for Trump. Comey again said during the Senate Intelligence Committee hearing that the president himself had not been under investigation prior to Comey's dismissal.
