Omaar Balton smiled from ear-to-ear as he talked about his new job in human resources with the city of Minneapolis.

Balton said he took a chance on a career fair – something he'd never done before. This particular fair was "The People of Color Career Fair" earlier this year in Minneapolis.

"You really just have to do it -- step out of your comfort zone," Balton said. "I've never been to a career fair, that was my first time going to one. I didn't know what to expect. Ended up being one of the best decisions I've made."

According to the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development, the unemployment rate among African-American and Hispanic populations is 14.9 percent compared to just 2.9 percent among whites.

The fair returns to the Minneapolis Convention Center Tuesday.
