A man was struck and killed after walking into a road in Spring Lake Park Friday night, according to police.

Spring Lake Park police said the collision happened on northbound University Avenue near the intersection with 83rd Avenue Northeast just before 7:30 p.m.

Police later identified the victim as a 35-year-old Fridley man. His name was not released.

A release said the driver swerved while attempting to avoid the man and ended up in the center median.

The driver remained at the scene and cooperated with authorities, and police do not believe drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash. Nobody in the vehicle was injured.

A manager at nearby Key's Cafe said someone walked into the road before being hit.
