BCA: Man Fired at St. Paul Officers Before Being Fatally Shot

The two officers involved in Thursday night's police shooting in St. Paul have been identified as Officer Daniel Gleason and Officer Jordan Wild, according to the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension.

Gleason and Wild shot and killed 28-year-old Phumee Lee while responding to reports of shots fired during a domestic situation.

Officers were called shortly after 6 p.m. Thursday to a residence in the 400 block of Earl Street.

Officers were able to locate a woman who said she was shot at while calling 911. The woman was not injured. St. Paul police said the woman reported Lee, of St. Paul, fired two shots at her, and five children were still inside the home.

After making sure the children were safe, officers began searching for the suspect.

According to the BCA, the officers located Lee walking south of the home on Earl Street. Lee ignored officers commands to stop and fled.

When officers caught up with Lee, he pulled out a handgun and pointed it at the two officers, according to the BCA. Multiple shots were fired, however, no officers were hit.

The BCA said paramedics provided aid to the suspect, however, he was pronounced dead on scene. He said a gun was also located on scene.

The officers involved in the shooting were wearing activated body-worn cameras at the time of the incident, according to the BCA.

Gleason has been with the St. Paul police department for six years and Wild has been with the department for three. Both officers are on paid administrative leave.
