Shooting leaves 1 dead, 1 injured

Police had blocked off an area involving North Russell and Oak Park Avenue just after midnight Friday morning.

UPDATE 4/6 at 10:16 a.m.: The victim in the shooting has been identified as 28-year-old Marcus David Williams Jr., of Minneapolis.


Minneapolis police say an overnight shooting has left one person dead in the city’s north end and another person with potentially life-threatening injuries.

A 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS photographer captured video in the area of North Russell and Oak Park avenues just after 12 a.m. Friday, where crime scene tape was set up.

Police say officers were called to the 800 block of Russell Avenue North around 12:12 a.m. for reports of a shooting.

When officers arrived, they found the seriously injured man lying on the ground of an alley entrance on the 2300 block of Oak Park Avenue. He was then taken to Hennepin Healthcare.

A second man, who police said had life-threatening injuries, died at Hennepin Healthcare after being brought there in a passenger vehicle, according to police.

Both men are described as being in their 20s.

As of this time, no one has been arrested. Police believe the shooting involved people who knew each other.
