Despite Alert, No Active Shooter at Hennepin Technical College; Instead, Suspicious Package Found

September 14, 2017 03:12 PM

A Hennepin Technical College representative said an emergency alert about an active shooter on campus was sent out in error Thursday morning.

Rather, the alert should have said a  suspicious package was found on campus.

Brooklyn Park police confirmed those details, and said officers are on sight looking into the package.

In a release, the department said officers responded about 11:30 a.m. to the campus on a report of a suspicious package. The college was evacuated and remains closed as the investigation continues, but the police department said there is no immediate threat to public safety.

The school announced classes are canceled for Thursday.
