Florida authorities say one Minnesota woman was killed while 14 other people from Minnesota were injured in a crash on Interstate 75 near Fort Lauderdale Tuesday afternoon.
The Florida Highway Patrol identified the deceased victim as 18-year-old Lauren Vanreese, of Andover. WPLG-TV, an ABC affiliate, said her mother, 50-year-old Kimberly Vanreese, suffered serious injuries.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, other seriously injured include Steven Wienhold, 42, of Ramsey; Paul White, 49, Andover; Mark Steuart, 68, Richville; Barbara Steuart, 69, Richville; Rachel Kerr, 45, Cohasset; Laura Wienhold, 43, Ramsey; Kimberly Vanreese, 50, Andover; Katie Topitshoper, 19, Ham Lake; Gabriella Rooney, 19, Ham Lake; Justin Kerr, 14, Cohasset; Ryan Kerr, 11, Cohasset; Brynn Weinhold, 12, Ramsey; Blake Weinhold, 10, Ramsey and Brook Wienhold, 4, Ramsey.
The Florida Highway Patrol said in a report that the van the party from Minnesota occupied was traveling southbound on I-75, when it was struck by pickup driven by Nisbany Surit Garcias, Fort Myers. The van then lost control and overturned several times.
One occupant was ejected, according to the report.
Garcias suffered minor injuries in the crash. Florida Highway Patrol said it is believed alcohol was a factor and that Garcias now faces multiple felony and misdemeanor charges.
WPLG reported the families from Minnesota were returning to Fort Lauderdale from Fort Myers after attending a Minnesota Twins spring training game.
