Metro Transit Wins National Award for Outstanding Transportation

Metro Transit staff members and supporters announced Wednesday the transportation system will receive a nationwide award from the American Public Transportation Association.

In September Metro Transit will earn the 2016 Outstanding Public Transportation System Achievement Award at the industry group’s annual meeting.


Metro Transit, made up by buses, the light rail and commuter rail was compared by other transit agencies throughout the nation that provide at least 20 million rides a year.

U.S. Rep. Betty McCollum, state Rep. Frank Hornstein, county commissioners Peter Mclaughlin and Rafael Ortega, interim president and CEO of the Minneapolis Regional Chamber of Commerce John Stanoch, Council Chair Adam Duninck and Metro Transit General Skoutelas all gathered Wednesday to announce the award.

Metro Transit will have a new logo featured on buses and trains to celebrate the award and thank customers, staff and partners for support.
