Sources told KSTP 18-year-old, Marcus Fischer was shot by police when he pulled a knife shortly after being questioned about his possible role in the shooting of a man, which happened in Northeast Minneapolis and ended at a gas station in Ham Lake.
Eric Fischer, Marcus Fischer's father, said his son was questioned about the northeast Minneapolis shooting, but said he does not think police should have shot his son Monday in Room 108 inside the MPD Investigative Unit at City Hall.
"I know they were talking to him and they say he pulled a knife and they had to shoot him to save him from killing himself, but I just think that is really a bunch of B.S.," Eric Fischer said.
Fischer said he has a lot of questions about what happened to his son Monday and he would like to know why police did not use a stun gun on his son.
"Why couldn't they use their TASERs," Eric Fischer said. " I mean, I know they are saying they tried to do that and it did not work and that he was a threat to himself and to the officers, but I just do not understand why they could not have TASERed him."
Eric Fischer said he was allowed to visit his son for about 10 minutes in his hospital room because he is still in critical condition and a suspect in a shooting.
"I was not allowed in there very long and he did not look very good with his face all swollen and a breathing tube and they had armed police in the room at the time and I am told he might lose the use of his right hand and might need more surgery on his neck," he said.
Sources KSTP that Marcus Fischer was brought in as the main suspect in the Dec. 13 shooting of an unidentified Coon Rapids man.
That shooting happened in northeast Minneapolis, but was originally reported to police as a road rage incident on Highway 65, which ended with the Coon Rapids man being found by police. He is expected to survive.
Sources said MPD investigators think Fischer is the person who pulled the trigger in that shooting and had confessed to the shooting just before he pulled out a knife and started stabbing himself, which included a slash to his own throat.
Sources also said the northeast Minneapolis shooting was the result of a drug deal that went bad, eventually turning into a robbery.
Two other men have been taken into custody in connection with the shooting, and a 16-year-old girl was also taken into custody.
