Police marked off an area where a man was found lying on a sidewalk in North Minneapolis. He later died in the hospital.

Minneapolis police report a man has died after he was found on the sidewalk around 1:48 a.m. at the 3000 block of Emerson Avenue North. 

According to a press release, the man suffered "physical trauma" and was found lying on the sidewalk after a 911 call alerted officers.

The victim was taken to North Memorial Hospital where he died. Police are calling it a "suspicious death."

The cause of death and name will be released at a later time by the Hennepin County Medical Examiner's Office.
