Man Charged with Sex Trafficking, Prostitution of 15-Year-Old at Richfield Motel

A 28-year-old Brooklyn Park man is charged with sex trafficking and promoting prostitution of a 15-year-old girl. 

Charging documents state Marquez Domingo Lopez met a 15-year-old and invited her to a party at a a Motel 6 in Richfield. However, Lopez reportedly told the girl she could not leave and needed to work to earn money for the room.

The victim told investigators she protested when Lopez's friend offered to pay for sex, but Lopez allegedly told her she wasn't leaving the room, according to court documents.

After having sex with Lopez's friend, the victim was moved to a different room where she was forced to have sex with an estimated 10-15 different men, the criminal complaint details.

A few days later, the victim said she was able to escape the room and get help, although Lopez reportedly followed her to the lobby. A security guard told investigators the man with the girl in the lobby downplayed her pleas for help, according to court documents. 

A social worker picked her up, and authorities interviewed her in January 2017 at Hennepin County Medical Center.

Investigators obtained motel records, which showed Lopez had rented the room for three days. Cell phone records also showed messages related to commercial sex acts and rates as well as video of the victim, court documents state.

On March 21, 2018, officers interviewed Lopez who said he did not know the victim. He said security footage from the motel was him, but he said he didn't know anything about a disturbance, according to the criminal complaint.

Both charges are felonies and each carry a maximum penalty of 20 years and/or $50,000.

Though Lopez was charged by warrant in Hennepin County, he is in custody in Moose Lake.
