A Minneapolis man has been charged with second-degree murder in connection to a fatal stabbing that occurred on the 2200 block of Lake Street East in Minneapolis Tuesday night.
Frank Runningshield Jr., 43, was officially charged Friday in connection with the incident that left 26-year-old Daquan Lee Thompson dead.
According to the criminal complaint, police were dispatched to the Lake Street light rail station at around 7:17 p.m. Tuesday on a report of a stabbing. When they arrived, they found Thompson lying on his back in a pool of blood outside the west exit doors of the station.
The complaint alleges multiple witnesses reported seeing Runningshield near the victim, or leaving on foot. Another witness reportedly told police Thompson and Runningshield had been involved in a dispute over the sale of marijuana. A different witness reported that as Runningshield walked away from the stabbing, he remarked "He'll be OK, it's just a flesh wound."
The complaint states surveillance video at the station reportedly shows four people involved in a conversation, including Thompson and a man "consistent in appearance" with Runningshield. The conversation appears to end well, but then the man who allegedly is consistent in appearance with Runningshield makes a quick stabbing motion toward Thompson, who immediately bends over in apparent pain.
Runningshield reportedly told investigators he had stabbed Thompson after a weeks-long dispute between the two.
