Local Comedians Hope To Provide Laughs And Much More for Ailing Restaurant Owner

A group of local comedians are hoping to provide more than just laughs for one of their friends.  They are planning two comedy benefit shows for local businessman and comic Joe Minjares.

"He's got this great big theater and he's got a huge comedy community and people just want to do something," local comedian Kristin Andersen-Anderson said.

Minjares is a former stand-up comedian and the owner of Pepitos Mexican Restaurant and The Parkway Theater.  His health and his business have been suffering.  Minjares had a lung transplant earlier this month, and his restaurant and theater are scheduled to close at the end of December.

The comedy benefit takes place on Nov. 25.  The first show sold out, however, they have added a second show that will be at 10:30 p.m.  Joel Hodgson, creator of "Mystery Science Theater" will headline the event.  Tickets can be purchased here: https://www.detail/3538vitalculture.com/events/.
