According to the complaint, Ramsey County Sheriff's deputies were called around 11:30 p.m. on Monday on reports of an incident involving a knife. Upon arrival, officers located a male victim — later identified as Griffo's husband — who was holding his own intestines after suffering an apparent stab wound.

Griffo told investigators she had called her husband multiple times, but he did not answer the call. She told police she believed she had heard a woman's voice when his phone was activated in his pocket.

According the complaint, the two began to argue when he arrived home. Griffo told investigators the two argued for about three minutes when the victim punched her in the face. Griffo said she must have "blacked out" and stabbed him.

During an interview, Griffo told investigators the substance on her white shirt was not blood, but Doritos she had been eating due to an upset stomach.
