Isanti County Sheriff's Deputy Hailed For Saving Occupants of Sinking Vehicle

An Isanti County Sheriff's Deputy is being called a hero after rescuing three people from a sinking vehicle Monday in an icy marsh.

Alex Schlangen managed to get three people out of their car at the height of that night's snow and ice. Conditions were so slippery on the road that Schlangen first slid past the car when he showed up to the scene.


But he managed to crawl out on the ice, then swung at the back window with his baton to smash it. He then got the vehicle's three occupants to safety.

None of the three victims were seriously injured.

In fact, after they were checked out at the hospital, Schlangen drove them home.
