A report of an overdue motorcyclist led to the discovery of a fatal crash Sunday in Isanti County.

The Isanti County Sheriff's Department reports that 47-year-old Paul Allan Johnston of Stanchfield was pronounced dead at the scene when deputies arrived at the intersection of 385th Avenue Northwest and Lily Street Northwest in Maple Ridge Township.


The release states preliminary investigation indicates the motorcycle was traveling east on 385th Avenue Northwest when it struck a road sign after failing to negotiate a curve.

The matter remains under investigation and an autopsy will be performed.

The release said the department received a phone call reporting an overdue motorcyclist late Sunday morning. A request for a cell phone ping led deputies to the location of the crash.
