Authorities say the person found dead inside an overturned car in a ravine along Interstate 94 in central Minnesota on Monday was an Osakis man who was last seen Aug. 4.

State troopers responded to the scene about 2:11 p.m. after Minnesota Department of Transportation workers reported the overturned car.

Investigators say the vehicle was traveling westbound on I-94 and veered off the road to the right and overturned, landing upside down in the ravine.

The Midwest Medical Examiner's Office on Tuesday confirmed the victim was 47-year-old Alan Michael Thomas.

Authorities say the crash appears to be a single-vehicle accident but don't know exactly when it happened.

The state patrol said Monday the vehicle and body inside appeared to have been there for a long period of time.

A missing person alert for Thomas was issued Aug. 12.

The Todd County Sheriff's Office said Thomas left his home Aug. 4 and went to Blaine to visit friends. He planned to come home that same day, but hadn't been seen or heard from since.
