Hennepin County Sheriff Richard Stanek was one of 10 sheriff's from around the country who met with President Donald Trump Tuesday at the White House - a meeting held to discuss a number of public safety issues law enforcement agencies face.

Stanek provided Trump with an update on the opioid epidemic, and what the National Sheriff's Association is doing to combat it at the national level, according to a release.

Stanek also shared data for Hennepin County, which experienced 162 opioid-related deaths in 2017 - a record high. And that total could increase as final numbers come in.
