Miracle Williams says she got a call at work about her nephew Duron Adams Jr., about how bad his condition was from being hit by a vehicle Thursday afternoon in Fridley. She says hearing the news was like an out-of-body experience.
"He shouldn't know all that pain he's going through," she said. "And If I could trade places with him I would, because he doesn't deserve this."
Williams says she left work and made her way to Hennepin County Medical Center to see her nephew and be with family. She says it broke her heart to see her nephew suffering. By Tuesday night, Duron had been in the hospital six days. His injuries are life-threatening.
"He has severe brain damage; his spinal cord is kind of detached," Williams said. "They're not sure as far as the brain is concerned how well he's going to be when he wakes up, as far as what he's capable of doing, as far as if he can move his arms and legs and if he can speak."
Police said the incident occurred about 3:15 p.m. Thursday within blocks of Duron's school. Williams says the Anoka County Sheriff's Office is still working to determine the circumstances surrounding the crash, including where Duron was hit and if he was in a crosswalk at the time.
The family has established a GoFundMe page in Duron's name.
