Twenty-one-year-old Cory Morris is in the Hennepin County Jail, accused of killing his 4-month-old daughter.
According to authorities, it happened about 5 p.m. Saturday at the family's home in the Prospect Park neighborhood on the east side of Minneapolis.
Emersyn Jeanne Morris was born on March 23, 2016. Minneapolis police are investigating her death as a murder.
The young couple, Cory Morris and Jenny Andersen, lived together on Franklin Avenue Southeast. On Monday, Andersen posted a message on Facebook with a photo of her baby and these words: "Emersyn was my whole entire world and now she's gone."
Ginny Morris is the suspect's mother and Emersyn's grandmother.
"All I know is we're devastated and we love her; I've lost my grandbaby and my son too," she said.
Police say Cory Morris was the only person home with his daughter when she suffered suspicious injuries. Emersyn died at the hospital.
Andersen's post on Facebook revealed, "I left her in the care of her father like normal while I was at work, he took her life."
Ginny Morris said, "I don't understand what happened and we would've never left him alone with her if we thought he would harm her and he wouldn't want to, he didn't want to, he loved her."
Ginny Morris says her son had been dealing with bouts of anxiety and depression and relatives had been trying to get him mental health treatment. Just last week, they say, Andersen took him to a doctor.
Finally on Facebook, Andersen summed up her pain with, "There are no words to describe the immense hurt I'm going through."
That's a feeling shared by the entire family.
"We're hurting; all I can think about is my grandbaby, her mom and her family," said Ginny Morris.
Cory Morris faces criminal charges and a court hearing Tuesday. Minneapolis police said this is the only contact this year they've had with him.
