A man involved in a fatal crash in Lakeville who was arrested about a block away after shedding his clothes was sentenced Tuesday.

Forty-year-old Eric Wesley Kasprzyk of Rosemount pleaded guilty in May to criminal vehicular homicide and first-degree burglary in connection to the April 1 crash.

He was sentenced Tuesday to 3 ½ years in prison on each count, which will be served concurrently.

According to police, a speeding complaint was reported about 8:30 a.m. Friday, April 1, and within minutes, a crash was reported at 160th Street and Cedar Avenue.

The crash involved multiple cars and killed 45-year-old Osah Phetsarath of Lakeville.

Kasprzyk fled the scene, shedding his clothes as he ran toward an Apple Valley residential area. He ran into an unlocked townhome on the 15800 block of Gooseberry Way, which was about a block away from the crash scene, police say.

Police say a husband and wife and their two young children were inside the townhome at the time.

The woman said she heard her husband shouting, which awakened her.

"He was standing at the closet door upstairs and said, 'There's a naked man in the closet,'" the woman, identified as Katie Woehler, said. "I thought it was an April Fools' joke. Then I heard the pounding on the closet and I knew it wasn't, and he said, 'You need to call the cops.'"

Woehler said the suspect made it out of the closet and struggled with her husband for a short time in the kitchen. The suspect then went to the basement and locked all of the doors.

Police arrived and were able to take Kasprzyk into custody.

When asked why he took off his clothes, Kasprzyk said he didn’t know and couldn’t remember anything from the time of the crash until he awakened at the hospital, according to the complaint.
