In the statement, family and friends thanked the law enforcement agencies involved in the search for Nguyen and asked for privacy as they come to terms with Cory's loss.

“Beverly was our most beloved spouse, sister, aunt, friend, community member, colleague and advisor,” the statement reads. “She will be missed terribly by all who knew her intelligence, kindness, loyalty, integrity, spirituality, and playful enthusiasm for life. Our grief is overwhelming as we come to terms with her sudden loss in our lives.”

Nguyen has been charged with five counts related to the crime spree, including second-degree murder. He remains in jail on $1.5 million bond.

The full statement is below:

It was with tremendous relief that we learned of the successful capture and arrest of the man who so violently ended the life of our dearest Beverly.

Our many thanks go out to the Mendota Heights Police Department, especially Chief Kelly McCarthy; the Maplewood Police Department; the Dakota County Sheriff's Department; the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension; the US Marshal Service; the Minnesota State Patrol; and the many women and men from the other law enforcement agencies who were involved in the search and arrest.  Their competence, tenacity and compassion during this time gave us every confidence that there would be a just resolution to this case. Our greatest relief is that no one else was hurt.

Beverly was our most beloved spouse, sister, aunt, friend, community member, colleague and advisor.  She will be missed terribly by all who knew her intelligence, kindness, loyalty, integrity, spirituality, and playful enthusiasm for life.  Our grief is overwhelming as we come to terms with her sudden loss in our lives.

We deeply appreciate the kindness and support that has been extended in many ways over the past few days as the community has learned of our loss.  Beverly would be amazed, humbled, and heartened by the outpouring of love and sympathy and would want her recognition to be channeled into a positive purpose.  Memorials in her name may be directed to the Beverly Cory Memorial Fund, 8362 Tamarack Village, Suite 119-460, Woodbury, MN 55125.

We ask for some privacy and time to come to terms with our loss and will announce plans for a celebration of Beverly's life in the coming weeks.
