Man Dead in Crystal After Exchanging Fire with Police

A man is dead after he exchanged fire with officers in Crystal early Friday evening, according to Hennepin County Sheriff Rich Stanek. 

Stanek said multiple law enforcement agencies responded to the 5100 block of Angeline Avenue North just after 5 p.m. on reports of a suicidal man. 


Upon arrival, they encountered the man, who was armed with a gun, and began evacuating neighbors and nearby homes.

After making contact with the man, Stanek said the man exchanged fire with police, and he was pronounced dead at the scene. No officers were injured during the incident.

Officers from the Crystal, New Hope and Robbinsdale police departments were all dispatched to the scene. The Hennepin County Sheriff's Office is investigating, and the Hennepin County Medical Examiner's Office is expected to release the man's identity and cause of death.
