The city of Plymouth on Tuesday became the fourth in the state to raise the legal tobacco purchase age to 21.

The City Council approved the ordinance in a 4-3 vote.

Plymouth follows Edina, St. Louis Park and Bloomington in raising the purchase age to 21. The Association for Nonsmokers-Minnesota says five states and 275 municipalities have adopted similar policies.
