Authorities are investigating whether drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash.

Walker has been a Chisago County commissioner for 10 years. She is well-known in the county, and in her hometown of Stacy.

"We're just praying for her, and for her family, and for the poor man that was killed. This is a terrible thing in our community," Walker's neighbor Loreen Beckett said.

Authorities have not released the name of the driver killed in the crash.
