The Breezy Point Police Department reports two of its officers, with assistance from a state trooper, were able to wake up sleeping homeowners and evacuate them from a burning home early New Year's Eve Day.

A post to the department's Facebook page said officers Jason Rieber and Jay Lorch were performing patrols at around 2 a.m. Sunday in temperatures near -26 degrees. They noticed a single-family home with flames coming through the roof.
