A 16-year-old Coon Rapids boy has been arrested in connection to the purse snatching of a 70-year-old woman at the Crossroads Mall in St. Cloud on Sunday.

St. Cloud police say they've arrested and detained in a juvenile facility the boy they believe followed a 70-year-old Staples woman into the north doors of the Crossroads Macy's and grabbed her purse, causing the woman to fall to the ground. He then dragged her by the purse, kicked her and took off.

A witness to the incident, which occurred on Sunday about 5 p.m., reported she ran briefly after the suspect, who eventually dropped the purse in a Target parking lot, a police department release says. Security footage had captured an image of the suspect.

The boy had been reported as a runaway, the release says. He was arrested in connection to the theft on Wednesday night at 6:2 p.m. without incident. He was first taken to the St. Cloud Hospital for a psychological evaluation before being transported to the juvenile facility.

He's being held on a probable cause charge of aggravated robbery.

The victim received minor injuries and was treated on scene by paramedics.
