Two people were hospitalized after escaping from a house fire in Belle Plaine Thursday night.

Firefighters were called to a home on a 18000 block of Kelley Lake Road just before 10:30 p.m.

Officials said a woman and man were initially trapped inside the home but were able to make it out eventually.

Both were transported to the Hennepin County Medical Center, however, their conditions were unknown early Friday morning.

The fire chief said it appeared the fire began in the kitchen but the exact cause is under investigation.
