18-Year-Old Victim Identified Following Shooting in South Minneapolis

Police say one person is dead following a shooting in south Minneapolis.

The victim has been identified as 18-year-old Norea Stephon Wilford from St. Paul, according to the Hennepin County Medical Center.


A release from the Minneapolis Police Department said officers were called around 10:30 p.m. Friday to 43rd Street East and First Avenue South on reports of a shooting.

When officers arrived, they were unable to locate a victim in the area. Shortly after, they were informed a man was dropped off at Hennepin County Medical Center.

The release said the victim died from a gunshot wound to his chest at the hospital. Authorities believe the two calls are related.

Jed Meyer lives on the block and says he saw what happened. 

"There was actually a vehicle parked out front here that was idling for a while that I kind of noticed and then look away for a second. And as soon as I looked away right out here about five shots rang out from a car driving down the street. And it actually ran into this car right here," he said.

Police are continuing to investigate the incident.
