A Projected Look at Thanksgiving Weekend Shoppers: By the Numbers

Shopping is on everyone's to-do lists during the holiday season.

And that season kicks off on Thanksgiving Friday - or Black Friday as it is sometimes called. Though sometimes it starts even sooner than that.

According to a survey by the National Retail Federation, about 164 million people plan to shop during Thanksgiving weekend overall.

Here's the list of the number of potential shoppers by day during Thanksgiving weekend:

  • Thursday, Nov. 23 (Thanksgiving): 32 million
  • Friday, Nov. 24 (Black Friday): 115.7 million
  • Saturday, Nov. 25: 71.3 million
  • Sunday, Nov. 26: 35.2 million
  • Monday, Nov. 27 (Cyber Monday): 78.4 million

The survey also looks at the reasons why consumers shop during Thanksgiving weekend: 66 percent feel the deals are too good to pass up; 26 percent said it's just a tradition; And 23 percent are just looking for something to do over the holiday weekend.
