Truck destroyed in fire on Stearns County lake

A truck was damaged Wednesday after it caught fire on a Stearns County lake.

According to the Stearns County Sheriff’s Office, deputies received several phone calls at about 7:52 p.m. regarding a fish house and truck on fire on Pearl Lake, in Maine Prairie Township.

Deputies and Kimball firefighters responded and found a 2003 white Chevrolet Silverado fully engulfed in flames about 200 years off the east shore.

The owner of the truck told authorities he was trying to work the fish house loose, as it was stuck in the ice. He then noticed a small fire under the engine compartment of his truck and attempted to extinguish it by throwing snow on it.

After that was unsuccessful, he went back to his home on the lake to get a fire extinguisher and returned to find the truck fully engulfed in flames.

Firefighters extinguished the flames, and nobody was injured, the sheriff’s office said.
