Cash reward offered for information on year-old St. Paul homicide case

St. Paul police say a cash reward is being offered in the hopes of someone coming forward with information a year after two people were shot and killed in the city.

According to police, 21-year-old Alejandro Omar Rios and 39-year-old Michael William Steward, both of St. Paul, were killed during the overnight hours of Jan. 21, 2021.

As 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS previously reported, officers were called to the area of Payne Avenue and North Street, just after 3:30 a.m. that morning, and when they arrived, they found the two men lying on the sidewalk of North Street with apparent gunshot wounds.

Rios and Stewart’s deaths were the second and third homicides of 2021.

Police now say investigators believe someone who stays near the area knows who pulled the trigger.

St. Paul police say the reward is up to $1,000.

No arrests have been made.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers of Minnesota at 800-222-8477. Police emphasize you can remain anonymous.
