The Trump administration has informed the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and other federal health officials to avoid using certain words and phrases, according to a Washington Post article released Friday.
Those organizations were reportedly advised to avoid using seven words and phrases in documents they're submitting for the 2019 budget, including "fetus," "transgender," and "science-based."
Officials did not give a reason or explanation for the banned words.
This weekend, CDC Director Dr. Brenda Fitzgerald emailed employees, saying in part, "I want to assure you that the CDC remains committed to our public health mission as a science- and evidence-based institution. As part of our commitment to provide for the common defense of the country against health threats, science is and will remain the foundation of our work."
The mixed messages are creating concern within the medical community. KSTP medical expert Dr. Archelle Georgiou is going inside your health to offer some insight.
