Some Minn. stations switch to digital early
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - It was generally a smooth transition as some Minnesota television stations switched off their analog signals four months ahead of a new deadline.
WUCW, the CW station in the Twin Cities, went all-digital at 11:59 p.m. Tuesday. General manager Joe Tracy says the station got about 50 calls Tuesday but only about a dozen calls Wednesday, after the switch.
KTTC-TV and KXLT-TV in Rochester also had a seamless switch, according to Jerry Watson, vice president and general manager. But Watson says some cable companies weren't ready for the switch.
In Duluth, WDIO/WIRT operations manager Dave Poirier says the station fielded over 275 calls Wednesday morning. Both stations are transmitting at half-power for about a day or so until they can turn on their digital signals to full power.
