Petters to be arraigned on updated indictment

Wayzata businessman Tom Petters is scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday on an updated indictment in the federal government's fraud and conspiracy case against him.

The superseding indictment was issued June 3. It does not differ significantly from the original indictment handed up by a grand jury in December.

The 3 p.m. hearing should move quickly as it is mainly a formality.

Petters is accused of bilking investors by running a multi-billion dollar Ponzi scheme.

Since his arrest in September, Petters has maintained his innocence.

Petters' jury trial is set to begin Sept. 14 with jury selection beginning Sept. 8.
