As a level three sex offender is getting ready to be released from prison in the next couple of weeks, residents in Hopkins are growing concerned about the move.
Police said Timothy Cavier would be allowed to live with his parents on 12th Avenue North next to a park and bike path-both scenes of his previous incidents.
Cavier was convicted for having sex with a 14-year-old girl.
"It was his girlfriend, he had a relationship with her," said Hopkins Police Cpt. Tony Hanlin.
However, police did state another incident occurred along the bike path near his parent's home. The victim didn't press charges.
He was also convicted of indecent exposure after he was caught performing lewd act at the near-by ballpark.
Minnesota state law says once Cavier has completed his sentence, there are no restrictions on where he can live.
"We sent out approximately 450 letters to the immediate neighborhood," Hanlin explained.
Officials told 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS they don't want the community to be alarmed, and pointed to numbers that state less than five percent of level three sex offenders re-offend.
A community meeting has been scheduled for Thursday at 6:30 p.m. for residents to talk about their concerns with police.
