Do bears eat toads?  "Hitch" wasn't sure, so he stayed close to the entrance of the North American Bear Center in Ely, Minnesota.  He didn't need to go inside.  He got a good look at the bears when he watched the show on TV.  If you saw our friend by the sign, and entered our contest, then you had a chance to win our weekly souvenir.  Here are the five entrants who were chosen at random this week.:

Dave Breitung - Saint Peter, MN
Dolores Kay - Little Falls, MN
Patricia Schafer - Brooklyn Center, MN
Sergei Voyakin - Minneapolis, MN
Kristina Williams - Saint Louis Park, MN

There are many talented people that come from our region.  Some even become big stars.  We had a chance to visit the hometowns of three very popular performers: John Wayne, Bob Dylan and Judy Garland.  "Hitch" loves Judy.  His favorite movie is Wizard of Oz.  So, he couldn't resist sticking his head in the opening of the cardboard "Dorothy" to have his picture taken.  If you saw him there, and entered our contest, you were eligible to win one of our On the Road souvenirs.  Here are the lucky five who were chosen at random this week:

Julie Christian - Webster, MN
Shania Feldten - Apple Valley, MN
Jack Ketter - Elk River, MN
Matt O'Brien - Hayfield, MN
Jim Persian - Buffalo, MN

May 27, 2007 "Destination: Bayfield" (R)
Bayfield, Wisconsin is a great little town.  It's right on the shores of Lake Superior and the jumping off point for the Apostle Islands National Lakeshore.  It's also the berry capitol of Wisconsin.  Our friend "Hitch" loves the strawberry patches up there, but if you let him go off on his own he gets lost in the bushes and is very hard to find.  Many of you spotted him, however.  And from the list we chose five at random for our "On the Road" souvenir.

Chuck Janacek - Rice Lake, MN
Sally Lowe - East Bethel, MN
Deb Moyer - Alexandria, MN
Robert Nickson - Maplewood, MN

May 6, 2007 "Unusual Houses III"
We always get a lot of great comments when we do a show about fun and interesting homes.  And this episode was no exception.  Finally, we got to see how it really looks inside the Mary Tyler Moore House.  "Hitch", however, found himself at the tiny house in Iowa.  Just the right size for our toady friend.  Here are this week's winners:

April 29, 2007 "Superior Journey"
Ed Shively set quite a goal for himself, and even though he had to change course along the way he completed his journey, because quitting was not an option.  Our friend "Hitch" didn't go along on the adventure across Lake Superior because being cold is not his thing. He would rather read a good book in a cozy little warm spot like the small library in Houston, Minnesota.  If you saw him there, and registered your answer, you were entered in our contest.  These five folks were chosen at random by our computer as this week's winners:

Jane Christensen - Minneapolis, MN

March 25, 2007 "Crazy for Scrapbooks" (R)
Many of you caught "Hitch" shopping for scrapbooking materials at Mementos in Waconia, MN.  He spent his entire paycheck that day.  The retirement fund will have to wait.  He's got a lot of fascinating family history, so I think his book should be pretty interesting.  Lots of photos.  The only problem is, you can't tell one "Hitch" family member from another.  They all look so much alike.  Here are this week's winners:

Jaci Hale - Brooklyn Park, MN
Kathleen Hartzler - Minneapolis, MN
Debbie Hermanson - Isanti, MN
Rick Gerhardson - Bloomington, MN

There is hardly a more beautiful place in the winter time than Minnesota's North Shore.  "Hitch" enjoyed the beautiful view of the area from the top of the mountain.  How he got there, we're not sure.  He left no footprints in the snow.  If he took the gondola, wer're betting he still owes someone $10 for the price of the ride.  A lot of you spotted our friend in the snow.  As usual, our computer randomly picked five lucky winners.

December 17, 2006 "Reunions" (R)
This episode featured stories that touched us in many ways.  A daughter tracks down her birth father and travels many miles to meet him.  A Cuban-American goes back to his homeland to reunite with the sister he hadn't seen in decades .  Well, "Hitch" also has family that lives out-of-town.  He thought all he needed to do was jump into someone's luggage and off he'd go.  But the luggage he chose was "coming" not "going".  The only traveling he did was a few circles on the carousel.  Some of you spotted him on one of his revolutions.  Five lucky viewers were picked at random from the many who spotted our little friend.

Mary Berry - Milaca, MN
Kristin Haasl - Forest Lake, MN
John Kuchinka - North Mankato, MN

By the way, he wants to know if there's anyone who might lend him a couple of bucks. It seems he's had some hard luck and is a little short on cash right now.  It's just temporary. He's got lady luck in his back pocket.  Here are this week's winners:

From roses to lima beans, gardening is America's greatest pastime. It's great therapy and a lot fun.  Our buddy "Hitch" headed north to enjoy the beautiful, but little known, Northern Arboretum in Brainerd to watch the "Weekly Weeders" at work.  If you saw him there, congratulations!  If you entered our contest and won, double congratulations!!

This is the first show to air on our new night, Sunday.  Even though our program still airs on Saturday nights as well, the Sunday show will be the official show for "Hitch" spotters.  This week our toady friend found himself in the Pride of America's Grand Suite.  Five of those who entered our contest were chosen at random for our souvenir.  Be sure to keep watching Sunday nights for a chance to spot "Hitch".

Debora Anderson - Clear Lake, MN
Diane Frisk - Woodbury, MN
Fran Hernandez - St. Paul, MN
Terry Schwartz - Shoreview, MN
Mimi Whipple - Brooklyn Park, MN

June 17, 2006 "Searching Seoul II"
This week you had twice the opportunity to find our friend "Hitch".  He not only got to have a great Korean meal with Jason at Kings restaurant, but he also found a nice warm spot (sitting on the radiator) while visiting at the home of one of our Korean adoptees as the two women reminisced over photographs. Here are the winners who spotted "Hitch" in either of those two places. They are the five who were picked at random from all of the entries.

Carol Barthel - Little Falls, MN
Dave Bawden - Ramsey, MN
Matthew Mayer - Wayzata, MN
Mary Jo Omann - Sauk Rapids, MN
Richard E. Schneuer - St. Paul, MN

June 10, 2006 "Minnesota On The Railroad"
All aboard!  There is adventure and romance associated with the railroads.  "Hitch" loves to hear the clanking of the rails but doesn't hang around the tracks much. He could get run over. But he does visit the museums.  If you were watching carefully, you saw him at the Jackson Street Roundhouse.  These folks were among the many who saw him...entered our contest...and won.

Mary Hanson - Rochester, MN
Linda McCoy - Isanti, MN
Ken Prigge - Winona, MN
Darlene Westphal - Hutchinson, MN
Rebecca White - White Bear Lake, MN

June 3, 2006 "RV'ing"
RV lovers were treated to a great show this week.  And "Hitch", who loves camping, jumped on for a ride to the campground right next to the trailer "hitch", of course.  Many of you saw him.  Only five were picked at random for our "On the Road" souvenir.

Gerald Kolby - Ham Lake, MN
Cindy Konrad - Blue Earth, MN
Louis Ramirez - Alexandria, MN
Jenny Saufl - St. Paul, MN
Bill Yates - Oakdale, MN

May 27, 2006 "North Shore Summer"
While visiting the North Shore, "Hitch" found himself among the beautiful stones along the Lake Superior shoreline.  He looks somewhat like a rock, himself, but he didn't blend in enough to fool our viewers.  Many spotted our friend, and that's OK because we like to give away our souvenirs.  Here are this week's winners.

Terri Flipp - Cottage Grove, MN
James Hanson - Rochester, MN
Nancy Mathews - Fairmont, MN
DJ Morgan - Owatonna, MN
Sara Puppe - Red Wing, MN

May 20, 2006 "Kings of Gambling"
Some said they saw "Hitch" on Lyle Berman's desk.  Others thought they spotted him on a post outside of a Las Vegas casino.  You are all right.  Our little friend showed up twice in this episode.  He loves to gamble so, first he learned some tricks from the pro and then he headed to the poker tables. By the way, he wants to know if there's anyone who might lend him a couple of bucks. It seems he's had some hard luck and is a little short on cash right now.  It's just temporary. He's got lady luck in his back pocket.  Here are this week's winners:

Ruth Janke - St. Paul, MN
Pat Johnson - Prior Lake, MN
Linda Lambrecht - Long Prairie, MN
Lance Temanson - Maple Grove, MN
Denise Wieman - Owatonna, MN

May 13, 2006 "Crazy for Scrapbooks"
Many of you caught "Hitch" shopping for scrapbooking materials at Mementos in Waconia, MN.  He spent his entire paycheck that day.  The retirement fund will have to wait.  He's got a lot of fascinating family history, so I think his book should be pretty interesting.  Lots of photos.  The only problem is, you can't tell one "Hitch" family member from another.  They all look so much alike.  Here are this week's winners:

Vickie Boyer - Buffalo, MN
Lisa Kelley - Forest Lake, MN
Mary Leppla - St. Paul, MN
Randy Mann - Minneapolis, MN
Lisa Scanlon - Isle, MN

May 6, 2006 "Unusual Houses II"
"Hitch" was so excited about our "Unusual Houses" show, he showed up twice.  Some of you saw him at one place or the other, but no one reported seeing him both times.  He first appeared on the porch of the Taylor Home Inn (the Andy Griffith house) in Clear Lake, Wisconsin.  Later, he showed up again on the table in the farm silo getaway.  If you saw him either time, you qualified for our souvenir.  Here are our five winners this week.

Jennifer Hanson - Apple Valley, MN
Arlo Johnson - Bloomington, MN
Justin Kottom - Sartell, MN
Brian Kyhn - Apple Valley, MN
Sue Sorensen - Ramsey, MN

April 29, 2006 "South Dakota"
"Hitch" loves being a tourist.  He was so proud having his picture taken in front of Mount Rushmore.  "Hitch" is very involved in politics and has dreams of being the very first toad president some day.  Unfortunately, you usually have to be either an elephant or a donkey.  Here are our five winners, who spotted "Hitch",  chosen at random from our entrees this week.

James Bielke - N. Mankato, MN
Darlene Castleberg - Maiden Rock, WI
Dorette Kanengieter - Owatonna, MN
Sue Sorensen - Ramsey, MN
Linda Steele - Maplewood, MN

April 22, 2006 "North Pole 20th Anniversary"
It doesn't seem that "Hitch" is that old, but apparently he was along for the ride when Jason took the trip to the North Pole 20 years ago (or was he there just through the magic of television?)  He was very difficult to find this time and only a handful of you actually saw him sitting in the snow as the plane was landing.  Of the sharp-eyed viewers who entered the contest, only four qualified for the prize (remember, you can only win once in a calendar year). Here are the winners this week:

Tim Hoover - Greenfield, MN
Breanna Lyon - Champlin, MN
Miranda Meyering - Chanhassen, MN
Lawrence Wheeler - Minneapolis, MN

April 15, 2006 "On the Road to Heaven"
Faith is expressed in so many different ways.  It was nice to see the various examples of that on this episode.  "Hitch" watched it all from a great vantage point, right next to Jason, in the beautiful Mount Olivet Lutheran Church in Plymouth.  He saw the Martin Luther bobblehead, and now he wants a "Hitch" bobblehead. Not likely.  Here are this week's winners:

Mark Boardman - North St. Paul, MN
Russell Estridge - Danbury, WI
Nancy Rhode - West St. Paul, MN
Kiana Temanson - Maple Grove, MN
Sgt. Dan Wieman - Owatonna, MN

April 8, 2006 "From Minnesota with Love"
To lose your home and all of your belongings is a devastating experience.  Add your pet to that list and it's truly heartbreaking.  Imagine the joy of those Louisiana residents when they found out their pets were coming home after they were feared lost forever.  "Hitch" will always have a home with us.  He truly enjoyed seeing the owner/pet reunions.  If you saw him with a furry cat, I hope you registered for our contest.  From those who did, five were chosen as this week's winners.

Rhonda Arvidson - Minneapolis, MN
Jane Hermel - Waseca, MN
Sandy Jaeger - North Mankato, MN
Johnnie Meyering - Chanhassen, MN
Jerry Walton - Benson, MN

APRIL 1, 2006 "People of Ely"
Ely, Minnesota.  It's an interesting town with fascinating personalities.  Which now includes our very own "Hitch".  He took quite a liking to Bob Carey and perched himself in the snow near Bob's ice fishing spot.  Of all the viewers who saw him, five lucky ones were chosen at random for this week's prize.

Peg Beckstrand - Litchfield, MN
Dean Dietel - Hutchinson, MN
Paul Kerr - Mound, MN
Eric Menk - Mankato, MN
William Miller - Hinckley, MN

March 25, 2006 "Old Fashioned Service"
It seems you just don't get good service anymore, so it's a real treat when someone comes along that puts the customer first. Speaking of treats, that's what our friend "Hitch" was looking for when he hid in the back of the Schwan's truck.  Hundreds of our viewers spotted him, but only a lucky five were chosen at random as this week's winners.

Lori Butenhoff - St. Paul, MN
Hannah Gebhard - White Bear Lake, MN
John Hall - Isanti, MN
Shar Mullen - Buffalo, MN
Rosemary Tepe - St. Paul, MN

March 18, 2006 "Alaska Fishing"
For those who missed this great Alaska trip the first time it aired, we hope you enjoyed it, this second time around.  And, as before, "Hitch" was perched on the railing by the Bridge Restaurant.  A great place to be in our great State of Alaska.  Thanks to all who spotted him and entered our contest.  Here are this week's five winners chosen at random.

Connie Anderson - Apple Valley, MN
Vivian Dulas - Morristown, MN
Florence Janke - St. Paul, MN
Susan Marks - Shakopee, MN
Bruce Sexson - Eden Prairie, MN

March 11, 2006 "Minnesotans on the March"
Over 2600 soldiers from the Minnesota National Guard have departed to Iraq where they'll spend the next year or more.  We observed their training at Camp Shelby and got to know some of them intimately.  "Hitch" was even invited to join them for dinner.  If you saw him sitting on the table in the mess hall, and entered our contest, then you qualified to win our souvenir. As always, five winners were chosen at random from the many who entered.

Al Barthel - Little Falls, MN
Linda Bleth - Howard Lake, MN
Kari Boomgaarden - Plymouth, MN
Allisa Rardin - Brainerd, MN
John M. Sweet - East Gull Lake, MN

March 4, 2006 "Surviving Winter"
It was a cold, snowy, blustery day in Northern Minnesota.  But "Hitch" doesn't mind the cold.  He settled-in to the fluffly snow and watched the Minnesota DNR land it's plane on the frozen lake.  There's never a dull moment for "Hitch" when he's "On the Road".  Here are our five lucky winners who spotted him on this program, and chosen by random from all who entered:

Brian Fanger - Andover, MN
Gary Fessenden - Wyoming, MN
Vern Miller - Plymouth, MN
Carol Sammon - Redwing, MN
Carl Wieman - Owatonna, MN

February 25, 2006 "Minnesotans in Hawaii"
Hawaiians love Spam, and Minnesotans love Hawaii.  Our friend "Hitch" may be a toad, but he's smart enough to know how wonderful it is to relax on a Hawaiin beach.  Five lucky viewers who spotted him are this week's contest winners, chosen at random from the many who entered.

Brian Bonnema-Prinsburg, MN
Arlys Petzel-St. Croix Falls, WI
Taylor Stout-Oakdale, MN
Bruce Ward-Hopkins, MN
Becky Youngmark-Cannon Falls, MN

February 18, 2006 "North Shore Summer"
Once again, Jason and the "On the Road" crew headed to the North Shore to discover and explore this beautiful part of our state.  "Hitch", who's quite the rock hound, or rather rock "toad", settled in among the beautiful stones along the Lake Superior shoreline. Hundreds of you spotted him but only these lucky five were chosen at random as this week's winners.

Ronald Brantner-Wabasha, MN
Ardys Christenson-St. Michael, MN
Jason Downs-Maplewood, MN
Cherish Kovach-Richfield, MN
Ken Shoultz-Litchfield, MN

February 11, 2006 "North Shore Winter"
There is hardly a more beautiful place in the winter time than Minnesota's North Shore.  "Hitch" enjoyed the beautiful view of the area from the top of the mountain.  How he got there, we're not sure.  He left no footprints in the snow.  If he took the gondola, wer're betting he still owes someone $10 for the price of the ride.  A lot of you spotted our friend in the snow.  As usual, our computer randomly picked five lucky winners.

Dale Dulas-Morristown, MN
Elizabeth Johnston-Stanchfield, MN
Paula Pierce-Blaine, MN
Derek Reese-Oakdale, MN
Heidi Sargeant-Edina, MN

January 28, 2006 "Amazing Kids II"
TV host and author, Art Linkletter, liked to say, "Kids say the darndest things".  Well, they DO the darndest things too: drag racing, collecting vacuum cleaner pictures, creating radio stations, welding...and playing some of the finest fiddle music "Hitch" ever heard.  He loves the music of the Bistodeau Family Band so much, he even sat-in on one of their jam sessions at home.  Even though he somewhat blended into their sofa, many of you still spotted him sitting there. The winners who were chosen at random this week are:

Peg Beauchaine-Wayzata, MN
Don Halver-South St. Paul, MN
Rosie Herdina-Wyoming, MN
Marie Palecek-Hugo, MN

January 21, 2006 "Wine, Beer and Spirits"
"Hitch" loves collectables.  It was two weeks ago that he found himself in an impressive collection of classic cars.  This time he discovered a notable collection of Leinenkugel paraphernalia.  Many of you spotted him there.  Five of you were randomly chosen as this week's winners.

Denise Castle-Redwood Falls, MN
Eugene Krueger-Alexandria, MN
Brian Nelson-Brainerd, MN
Carol Schiro-Cosmos, MN
Ken Wielinski-Grand Marais, MN

January 14, 2006 "Glamour"
From calendar girls to dancing girls, our Glamour episode had it all.  The success of "Just for Kix" in Brainerd is certainly a fascinating story.  It's among the costumes where "Hitch" decided to hide out, just for "kix". Here are this week's winners.

Donna Blodgett-Hudson, WI
Sabrina Carlson-Madelia, MN
Sandra M. Dille-Rochester, MN
Larry Hilderbrand-Woodbury, MN
Sam Jonckowski-Browerville, MN

January 7, 2006 "Cars"
This was our first show of the new year.  And what a way to get it started, with some great cars.  You have to love those cars.  I know "Hitch" does.  He enjoys cozying up to a warm engine on a cold January night.  If you saw him sitting there under the hood, and entered our contest, then you were eligible for our prize.  Here are the five winners who were picked at random.

Kim Baumgartner-Champlin, MN
Donna Gould-Princeton, MN
Sara Matson-Carver, MN
Lyn Moilanen-Rochester, MN
Gregory Rasmusson-Minneapolis, MN

December 31, 2005 "Gunflint Trail & Iceland"
"Hitch" had an exciting New Year's Eve.  He made two appearances during our one-hour special from the Gunflint Trail and Iceland.  On the Gunflint, "Hitch" cozied up to the warm fire near the ice rink.  While in Iceland, our little toad found a couple of new troll friends.  Finally, someone his own size. Hundreds of our great viewers spotted "Hitch".  Sorry, only five can win.  Here are the winners who were picked at random.

Mary Jo Bauer-Arkansaw, WI
Bonnie Gibson-Rochester, MN
Jennifer Hanson-Apple Valley, MN
Lisha Schultz-Walker, MN
Marge Sylvander-Hastings, MN

December 24, 2005 "Giving Thanks on Christmas Eve"
"Hitch" was as touched as we all were with the wonderful stories on our Christmas Eve show.  He watched the show along with Jason and many of you spotted him, during one of Jason's on-camera appearances.  Five lucky viewers were chosen at random from the many entrees that we received.

Carol Schiro-Cosmos, MN
Beth Schwartz-Maple Grove, MN

December 17, 2005 "Ice Hotel"
"Hitch" went from a tropical paradise, Costa Rica, to an icicle paradise, the Ice Hotel in Quebec.  I guess "Hitch" thought when a hotel is made of ice and snow, it doesn't matter whether one stays inside or out.  So he stayed outside, plopping himself right by the sign.  That way he wouldn't forget where he is. Not very many spotted "Hitch" this week.  Of those who did, we chose five winners at random.

Cathy Anderson-White Bear Lake, MN
Al Barthel-Little Falls, MN
Linda Powis-Bloomington, MN
Bill Priglmeier-St. Cloud, MN
Jim Sirovy-Kandiyohi, MN

December 10, 2005 "Costa Rica"
Costa Rica is a tropical paradise.  Our friend "Hitch" comes from a long line of Costa Rican toads.  So, you can imagine how excited he was to get a chance to visit the homeland of his ancestors.  He especially enjoyed seeing how thatched roofs are made.  Here is a list of eligible viewers who spotted "Hitch" this week.

Bryan Bierl-Sanborn, MN
JoEllen Jones-Ham Lake, MN
Liz Kirby-Ham Lake, MN
Dianne Matson-Oakdale, MN

December 3, 2005 "Can You Believe It?"
Many of us are curious about whether there's intelligent life on other planets.  "Hitch" is no exception.  But he doesn't care if there are humans on other planets.  He wants to know if there are intelligent toads in outer space.  Many of you saw him hanging out during the attempt to communicate with other worlds.  Five of you were chosen, at random, as our winners for this week.

November 26, 2005 "Comedians"
"Hitch" likes a good laugh just like anyone.  But when he couldn't get a ticket to the show, he hid among the plants looking for an opportunity to sneak in.  Feeling guilty about what he'd done, "Hitch" decided to turn a new "leaf" on life.  But he wasn't as clever as he thought. Many of you saw what he was up to, including our five winners.

Joe McGee-Crystal, MN
Rolf Brustad-Minneapolis, MN

November 19, 2005 "Reunions"

November 12, 2005 "On the Road: Beautiful Birds"
"Hitch" doesn't know a whole lot about birds.  All he knows is they sometimes steal those delicious bugs that he likes to eat.  But as long as Jason was visiting a bird habitat in the wetlands, "Hitch" took advantage of the situation to visit some of his green relatives.  But as many of our observant viewers were quick to notice, "Hitch" stayed close to Jason so he wouldn't miss his ride home.
Congratulations to this week's winners!

John Jay Rouse-St. Cloud, MN
Pat Westaby-Coon Rapids, MN

November 5, 2005 "On the Road: Alaska Fishing"
Well, even though our friend "Hitch" wasn't very lucky with a fishing pole, he did get to enjoy that beautiful Alaskan view. He perched himself up on the railing at the Bridge Restaurant, breathed in the fresh air, and said "you should've seen the big one that got away!"  Sure, Hitch, we believe you. Congratulations to this week's winners!

October 29, 2005 "On the Road: Haunted Halloween"
"Hitch" wasn't afraid of any ghosts.  He called Ghost Busters and then headed for the Two Harbors Lighthouse Bed & Breakfast and settled in for the night.  Only a few observant viewers actually spotted our little friend's reflection in the mirror as he lounged on the pillow.  Congratulations to our winners!

Kelly Jurek-Becker, MN

October 22, 2005 "On the Road: Remembering the Edmund Fitgerald"

JC Sephard-St. Michael, MN

October 15, 2005 "On the Road: After the Flood"
We hope you learned something about the devastation of Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans and the plight of the animals there.  "Hitch" could be found in a cage with a very lucky cat.  Makes you want to go home and hug your kids and your pets!

October 8, 2005 "On the Road Goes Underwater"
You've got to admit "Hitch" looked like he was in his element, there among the rocks and water along the North Shore of Lake Superior.  We wish we could give a souvenir to all of you who spied that friendly lump of a toad we call "Hitch"!  If your name isn't one of those below, try again next week!

October 1, 2005 "On the Road: Destination Grand Marais"
Some weeks, "Hitch" is trickier to find than others.  That's why we've got to give double stars to the sharp-eyed and clever viewers who saw Hitch on the picnic table next to Jason in front of the North House Folks School in Grand Marais.  Congratulations!
