Tow boats and barges are backed up along the Mississippi River near Wabasha.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers shut down an eight-mile-stretch of the river to commercial traffic.

The Corps is dredging the Mississippi after heavy flooding in June washed soil into the river.

The standstill is a costly setback for industry that relies on the river. We're told the closure may affect the supply of concrete getting to the Twin Cities.

The Corps hopes to reopen the river on Aug. 10.
