It's a house built on determination and generosity.

In 2012 Zack Mohs was nearly killed in a hit-and-run accident. After two years of recovery, his mom wants to move him from a group home to his own home in South St. Paul.

Mohs needs something accessible with wide hallways and zero-depth entries for his wheelchair.  His mom raised enough money to buy a lot and start construction. Along the way, she learned she's not alone.

The Builders Association of the Twin Cities is kicking in $60,000 and the rest is being raised through a "Barnraisings" campaign. Barnraisings is a nonprofit that allows people to donate money and time to local causes.

Cheryl Young, Zack's mom, says the house symbolizes a new beginning.

"It's like all of this is ending. This nightmare is over and we can begin living again," she said.

If all goes well, the home could be ready for Zack to move in by spring.
