Art Barron - Anchor

”I’m a traditionalist when it comes to TV news,” says Art Barron. “Time is precious, and people want news that really matters to them.”

Previous experience
Art returned to 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS in January 2008 as morning and midday anchor, after holding the same position at the station from 1991 to 1996.  He was previously anchor/reporter at WFOR-TV in Miami/Fort Lauderdale, Florida, from 2001 to 2007.  Art also worked at KRQE-TV as anchor in Albuquerque, New Mexico, for five years, and at WICD-TV in Champaign/Urbana/Danville, Illinois, for six years.

Education

Art studied political science at Santa Monica College in California.

Career highlights
Prior to his Minnesota homecoming, Art covered more than a dozen hurricanes in the southeast, including southern Florida.  He also anchored more than 20 continuous hours of the devastating New Mexico wildfires in 1999.  Art was also co-organizer and host of KRQE-TV’s “FireCam Telethon”, which raised money for the Rio Rancho fire department to purchase life-saving thermal imaging cameras.

Community involvement
In New Mexico, Art was involved with Make a Wish Foundation and the Rio Rancho Department of Public Safety.  He also served as master of ceremonies for several charities while in Florida.

Personal interests
Art is a single father of three children.  He enjoys hiking, bike riding, skiing, body surfing, volleyball, bowling, painting, writing, traveling, music, high-def video, videography, and antique radio and television sets.  He is excited to be back in Minnesota.  “I had such a great time here before that I just had to come back!” says Art.  “Minnesota is a great place to live.”
