Move over Culver's; there will be a new place to get frozen custard and cooked-to-order burgers in the Twin Cities in 2014.
Freddy's Frozen Custard & Steakburger is planning to open its first store in Savage on Highway 13, followed by another location in Maple Grove on Fountains Drive. Another restaurant will open later in 2014 in Brooklyn Park on Edinburgh Drive, according to spokeswoman Sarah Selmon.
Freddy's is similar to Wisconsin-based Culver's, cooking up fresh burgers on the spot and serving frozen custard. They also have a variety of hot dogs and sandwiches on the menu, with sides such as shoestring fries, onion rings and chili.
Freddy's first restaurant opened in 2002 in Wichita, Kan., where the chain is still based, according to the website. It started franchising two years later and grew to more than 100 locations in 17 states.
Freddy's is expected to give Culver's a run for their money in Minnesota. Culver's has 53 locations in the state.
