Vikings Cornerback A.J. Jefferson has been charged with a felony count of domestic assault by strangulation, according to court documents released Wednesday.

The charges come after Jefferson was held on probable cause Monday morning. The Vikings announced his release from their roster later that day.

According to the documents, Jefferson's girlfriend of three years called the police after Jefferson picked her up by the neck and threw her off the bed.

The pair had been drinking in downtown Minneapolis prior to the incident. At some point during the evening, they got into a fight and Jefferson's girlfriend chose to sleep in the guest room.

She said he woke her up after he became mad she was ignoring his texts, according to the documents.

This is the second in three off-field incidents involving Vikings players. The other two are DUI allegations with Jerome Simpson and Erin Henderson.
