Second baseman Eddie Rosario, among the Twins top minor league prospects, told his winter ball manager in Puerto Rico that he failed a drug test after taking pills.
According to baseball's joint drug policy, Rosario will serve his mandatory 50-game suspension at the start of next season. He will be able to play the rest of the winter season in Puerto Rico.
The report appearing on Puerto Rico's sportprlive.com website says Rosario called his winter league manager and broke the news to him.
"Eddie Rosario called me three days ago and said 'I have some bad news'," the report quotes Mayaguez manager Frankie Thon saying.
Thon says Rosario told him he had taken pills after an arm injury, which resulted in the failed drug test.
