The 2014 Great Minnesota Get-Together will see some changes.
Heritage Square will undergo a multi-million dollar renovation.
State Fair officials say as soon as the 2013 vendors are out construction will begin. In addition to a new space for vendors, the area will serve as a transit hub. Some of the buses that usually go to the Como Avenue drop-off site will start to use the new area on the west end of the fairgrounds.
The vendors that are currently in Heritage Square will have to re-apply to get a spot for 2014.
Sam Simonson has been selling jewelry since 1975 in the square. He says he's confidant he will be back next year and hopes the increased foot traffic will help business. "Change sometimes is hard to take, but this change may be the greatest thing that ever happened to us," said Simonson.
State fair officials say that despite the dip in attendance in the middle of this year's fair, they are confident that the funds will be available for the project.
No exact cost figures have been released.
