A Maple Grove man suffered serious injuries to both his legs while boating Sunday in Polk County, Wis.

Twenty-five-year-old Mark Daniel Mann was listed in fair condition at Regions Hospital Monday night.

He was operating a stand-up jet ski while his friend, 23-year-old Andrew James Iverson of Minneapolis, was driving the boat on East Balsam Lake, according to the Polk County Sheriff's Department.

While Iverson was driving the 20-foot Mastercraft ski boat, Mann came off his jet ski in front of the boat while the boat was stationary, authorities reported. Iverson hit the throttle and moved forward, attempting to pull a wake boarder.

Iverson felt the boat hit something that he thought was a wave, but passengers on board yelled for him to stop because the boat hit Mann, authorities reported. Mann was transported to Regions Hospital in St. Paul with serious injuries to his legs.

A fundraiser has been established to help with Mann's medical bills.

Both the jet ski and boat are owned by Mann's father.

Police were called to the lake at about 12:30 p.m.

No alcohol was found on the boat, authorities reported, and alcohol is not believed to be a factor. The incident remains under investigation by the Polk County Sheriff's Department.

Several public safety agencies responded to the scene, including Amery Area paramedics, the Balsam Lake Fire Department and the Wisconsin State Patrol.

The lake is north of New Richmond.
